Charlotte Smith

CharlotteSmith_edited.jpg

Among my original compositions, I especially like this setting of a lovely C18 Sonnet by poet and novelist Charlotte Smith (1749-1806). It employs the evocative Phrygian Mode, and at the break between the 8th and 9th lines musically expresses the 'turn', or volta, so typical of the sonnet form. For mezzo-soprano or soprano and harp. Picture: Charlotte Smith by George Romney, 1792.
