This is my orchestration of an original manuscript (for keyboard) held in the Archives of the Royal Palace, Brussels. Written by Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales (1796 -1817) c.1816, possibly for Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Following her successful marriage to Leopold in 1816, the princess tragically died in childbirth. If she had lived, Victoria would never have become Queen. The princess was an accomplished musician and dancer, having been taught by the composer Louis von Esch (d.1829). See the 2020 biography of the princess, The Lost Queen by Anne Stott (Pen and Sword History). Picture: Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales by George Dawe, 1817 (Museum of New Zealand).
